In Memory of JFK

Today most of the people I know are talking about where they were 50 years ago today.  Of course for me and my friends who were not even 1 years old when JFK was assassinated we are working off of memories shared by our friends and family over the years.  I had always thought I was getting my hair cut at the time but it turns out I was in a department store getting my picture taken.  My mom probably wanted to give Grandma a darling picture of Moi as a Christmas gift.

The photo place was right next to the television department and there were 11 television sets all tuned on to the events of the day.  Of course with only 3 channels back then all channels were playing news of JFK's assassination.  It is interesting to me that after all these years my mom remembers the 11 television sets, the name of the photo studio, and other smaller details of the day.

Last year I had the chance to visit Dallas and stay at the Omni Hotel near the site of the JFK memorial and "the grassy knoll".   I was there with a group of travel writers and the Travelingmoms learning all about why Dallas is an ideal travel destination.  But actually, while I was there I barely wanted to leave the hotel.  The Omni is a beautiful, elegant facility that was a complete retreat.

-2 tsp Grated Nutmeg

- Mix 1.5 oz RumChata with 5 oz. Egg Nog
- Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg
